Nokia E6 hands-on: First look

Introduction

The Nokia E6 is Nokia’s latest business offer and it has just landed in our office. It’s the company’s first smartphone running the new Symbian Anna OS out of the box. The Nokia E6 is a touch phone with a QWERTY keyboard and it even has a higher pixel density than the iPhone’s Retina display.
It was a while since we’ve seen a high-end Nokia messenger. We are not trying to dismiss the previous E-series achievements, they’ve just became too conventional. Lucky for us the Nokia E6 brings a few interesting innovations to freshen up the lineup. It was about time!

The Nokia E6 is Nokia’s first handset with VGA resolution and also Nokia’s first QWERTY bar with a touchscreen. Its pixel density is even higher than the Apple’s Retina display. The E6 doesn’t stop here though – it packs the same camera module as most of its Symabian^3 siblings – an 8 megapixel fixed-focus sensor capable of HD video recording. Add the new Symbian^3 update – Anna – and we might have a potent business or messaging phone if not else.

As you can see the E6’s hardware is not top of the line, but we can assure you it’s perfectly fine for what it’s meant – replacing the Nokia E71 and E72 business messengers. The new Symbian Anna has lots of optimizations and seems to work seamless inside the Nokia E6. Surely, the E6 won’t attract everyone, but it has enough features to prove worthy.

Nokia W7 and W8 will lead the Windows Phone 7 march

Mobile Review's one-man Nokia rumor mill Eldar Murtazin has pushed out some details regarding the first fruits from the 'Microkia' (Microsoft/Nokia) team up, in the form of two new devices bearing the names W7 and W8.

Not only are they not exactly the most original names but the devices in question will apparently resemble the Nokia X7 and the N8 respectively.

Nokia apparently already has one working Windows Phone prototype in their possession, the W7. This X7 lookalike differs from it's Symbian sibling by its WVGA display, 8MP camera with autofocus and a Qualcomm QSD8250 Chipset. This (or something very similar to this) is most likely going to be the company's first WP7 device. Nokia targets availability by Q4 of this year, but there's a good chance that it might take until Q1 of 2012 to see it in action. In its current state the W7 is quite reminiscent of the HTC Mozart in terms of functionality, at least.

The followup to the W7 is naturally, the W8 and there is far greater speculation as this device won't be making an appearance until Q2 2012. However plans to make this a flagship imaging handset mean it has to have a strong skill set to stand out from the crowd. Using the N8 as the basis this one is said to pack a 12MP camera, a Qualcomm dual-core CPU and an Adreno 320 GPU. Specs are most likely going to change before the official release, but this one certainly looks promising.

In total Nokia plan to push 12 new devices out across 2012 (whether this includes the W7 is unclear) with mentions of the third and fourth WP7 handsets in the lineup consisting of a QWERTY candybar with a touchscreen, akin to the E71 or E6, and a 'cheap' touchscreen device probably mimicking the abilities of the W7 but featuring lesser build quality, and weaker imaging capabilities.

It seems they could try to make a bigger impression with some completely fresh designs to really shout about the birth of the WP7 Nokia but what we actually receive could still impress. Perhaps the concept they mocked up for MWC 2011, (a concept that so well embodied both Nokia and WP7) will make a reappearance as something more tangible soon.

Here's the Symbian Anna web browser, finally improved

A big part of the Symbian^3 Anna update that Nokia unveiled on Money was the new web browser that reportedly brings improvements in both performance and usability. And the company seems pretty eager to show that it has done a good job with it, dedicating a whole post on its blog to revealing its strong points.

In unison with the rest of the refreshed interface, the new web browser has been equipped with a streamlined UI that has seen the removal of the double rows of icons at the bottom of the browsing window and has instead replaced them with a small overlay back arrow and an options icon that can call up various different tasks such as bookmarks, history or the exit button. That makes for some extra room up top to include a convenient address bar for easy URL typing and web searching.

Speaking of which, we finally have split-screen typing view mode and a QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode. Those are little things that all owners of full-touch devices have taken for granted.

On the performance side of things, the new version 7.3 of the Symbian3 browser comes with a new 30% faster JavaScript engine and improved compatibility with HTML5. The new browser got 111 out of 400 in the standard HTML5 test, while the previous version only achieved 29. That’s some improvement.

From the looks of it, this is the largest step forward that the Symbian browser has taken since it went touch in 2007.

Samsung S8500 Wave preview: First look

Enter a new platform. With a boom. With a bang. A Bada kind of bang. Another of the big guns wants to play by their own rules. Samsung’s second spot in global market share was hard fought but it will be a while before they as much as wish the same for the Bada. They’ve been a consistent innovator over the last couple of years but getting baby Bada up and running must be quite a challenge.

The Samsung S8500 Wave is Bada’s carrier vessel and it certainly looks interesting. It seems to have the right thing to make it newsworthy: slim profile and an absolutely gorgeous screen. But is it enough to make it a success?

Over the past years new touchscreen platforms have been spreading like wildfire but not all of them have managed to catch on as well as their developers must have been hoping. Android fares well but still hasn’t quite overcome its growing pains, while the well settled Symbian platform is still coming to terms with touchscreen.

The S8500 Wave is among the best spec’d Samsung phones we’ve seen and it seems every aspect of the overall performance will have to pull its weight. Samsung are keen to focus attention on the young Bada OS, and that might as well bear future fruit. However, if the young platform fails to perform as expected, its shortcomings will be harder to forgive.

In the geeks' world 720p video recording and 1 GHz CPU are probably the best remedies for a few usability issues. However they rise the cost of the device and that in turn prevents some people from purchasing it. And in a market where smartphones come in all tastes and flavors you really want to get you device in as many pockets as possible.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and make hasty conclusions. We’ll hopefully know more about how Samsung will pitch the first Bada phone to the users so let’s waste no more time. Join us after the jump for the hardware inspection.

There are so many affordable touch phones on the market right now that it’s getting very hard to choose. We present to you the Samsung S5620, which brings high-end connectivity to the table in a modern, compact package.

The Samsung S5620 Monte packs the connectivity triumvirate – 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS. Those are paired with an excellent web browser, as good as any we’ve seen on a feature phone. Unfortunately, there’s no voice-guided navigation to put the GPS receiver to full use. Of course, things like SatNav software are regional with Samsung so you might get a different deal.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz review: Viv A-to-Z

Introduction

Sony Ericsson is an alliance of two tech giants and with phones like the Vivaz it shows. It’s a gadget all the way, one that will galvanize geeks and charm the regular user.

A whole bunch of point-and-shoot cameras today boast 720p video recording, but are they not an endangered species feeling enormous pressure on both sides? For one, there are compact video recording DSLRs pushing down with competitive price tags, and then cameraphones are eating into compact camera territory with comparable still image resolution and video capture.

Eight megapixel still images and 720p video with continuous auto focus make the Sony Ericsson Vivaz a predator of point-and-shoot cameras. The Vivaz is not just a cameraphone though, it’s a smartphone as well – a tricked out Symbian running on a 720MHz CPU with a 3.2” nHD display to show it all off. That’s all in a package more compact than any combination of a stand-alone camera and a phone you can think of.

High-end smartphones have a long history of trading compact size for cramming in one feature more than the competition. The Sony Ericsson Vivaz strikes a perfect balance between being compact and feature-full – great news for anyone who doesn’t appreciate the recent craze of smartphones the size of a table… umm… tablet.

Google Nexus One review: Firstborn

Introduction

All droids are equal but some droids are more equal than others. Google it. You’ll get the Nexus One. There are around 50 smartphones and tablets running Android today. That’s right, out of all the offspring they fathered with the Open Handset Alliance, Google finally have one to proudly call their own.

What does it mean? Well, not that the ones we’ve seen so far are some poor half-blood droids but the Nexus One is supposed to be THE thing. For one, it’s the first Snapdragon-powered Android and it shows. The Nexus One is wickedly fast. The WVGA touchscreen is a treat to look at and it’s only the second AMOLED display to find on an Android handset. D1 video is sure to sweeten the deal too, and perhaps so will the Live Wallpapers.

Awash in rumors well before launch, the Google Nexus One was officially revealed in January 2010 and it became available right after the unveiling event. Of course, the first units were to sell only in a very limited number of countries (UK, Singapore and Hong Kong).

Anyway Google are to start shipping their Nexus One through various carriers across Europe, starting with Vodafone this spring. That’s about the time when Verizon subscribers will be getting a CDMA version of the device. Google have a phone to sell, so it’s a fair guess they’ll be seeing to it that everyone can have it. Now, will everyone want to? Let’s see.

The Google phone has HTC fingerprints all over it. We just had the pleasure of the HTC Desire at the WMC and we quite liked what we saw. There’s no reason to expect less of the Nexus One – quite the contrary in fact, a little bit of nepotism only seems right.

The Google Nexus One won’t come with the HTC Sense of course, but who would’ve expected so! The Android 2.1 novelties will keep you busy enough anyway, but the first thing on everyone’s mind will be: Is there any special Google treatment the Nexus One is getting?

The latest of the Androids is in a way the firstborn, for all the good and the bad of it. It’s all in the name really: a name that will open doors but that carries a certain obligation too.

Nokia X10 has QWERTY keyboard, AMOLED touchscreen, rumor says

Nokia didn't put up much of a show at the MWC - they showed MeeGo and that was it. Yet, rumors of the first Symbian^3 devices are already floating around though - like the Nokia X10 rumor. A spy-style video promises a QWERTY keyboard, an AMOLED screen and more for this purported third entry into the Xseries.

The first Symbian^3 device from Nokia that we heard of was the Nokia N8, the rumored 12MP cameraphone with 720p video powers. It's quite possible that the Nokia N87 and the N8 will turn out to be the same thing, but the Nokia X10 might beat them to it and be the first Symbian^3 powered phone.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, the grand daddy of the Nokia X10 was the phone chosen to introduce the new touch-enabled branch of Symbian. But if the video is to be believed, the Nokia X10 packs a lot more impressive features than the 5800.

First off, it's a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard design (a la Nokia 5730 XpressMusic), it will be powered by a Cortex A8 CPU at 600MHz and have 256MB of RAM, with 16GB or 32GB of internal memory. There's nothing about a microSD card slot though (the Nokia X6 doesn't have one).

Minimum hardware requirements for Windows Phone 7 revealed

Microsoft is putting an end to free style design and is specifying three variants of Windows Phone 7 devices, that prescribe form factor, CPU, graphics and possibly more. Each variant, or “chassis”, specifies one of the most popular form factors, though we only have specifics for Chassis 1 for now.

Chassis 1 describes the requirements for “big touchscreen” phones. There’s no minimum screen size or resolution yet, but previous rumors suggested 3.6” WVGA. The minimum requirements for the CPU are 1GHz (that’s right - minimum) and hardware graphics acceleration is mandatory. Obviously Microsoft is really keen on ensuring smooth and comparable UI experience over various devices.

There are less details about Chassis 2 and Chassis 3. Chassis 2 will have slide-out QWERTY keyboards in addition to the touchscreen (we guess CPU and graphics requirements are the same) and the Chassis 2 devices are said to be Treo-like (strange, because the Treos are bars with portrait QWERTYs, there’s no sliding).

It’s the Windows Phone 7 Chassis 3 devices that have the bar form factor. That would make them Treo-like, rather than the Chassis 2 phones, which sound more like, say, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2.

Previous rumors about the minimum hardware requirements for Windows Phone 7 devices also listed minimum camera resolution, GPS, Wi-Fi and even a minimum set of hardware buttons. These vary quite a lot, so we’re not sure about the specifics, but it looks like Windows Phone 7 devices will be inhabiting the high-end segment only and Microsoft will have a firm grip on the used hardware via stringent licensing procedures.

The first Windows Phone 7 Chassis 1 devices should launch in time for this year's holiday season. There's no word on when Chassis 2 and 3 phones will launch.

Phone Fake and Phone Problems

Phone fake means a functional outage in the cell phones. Last year many users faced this problem and lot of problems in connecting with people by their mobiles. On preceding Saturday, an Anti-Virus company which is working in Philippines threatened the phone users and informed the people that there would be a big rise in “Phone Virus Attacks” in 2010. Google Android Phone and I-Phone are on the top of the list in the forecasting of this company.

Predicting the Malware Attacks 2010, one of the officials Mr. Kaspersky Lab informed the people that Google Android Phone and I-Phone will be affected with more attacks in 2010.

He also included that both the phone networks were affected badly in 2009 which is the argument that these companies are looking defenseless to the phone viruses. He added, this is the definite signal that cyber criminals will continue their attacks on these networks. He also said, Android phones are on the top of the danger list while I-phone customers who use negotiating devices will are on at the risk.

He also told that Android “OS” does not a have strong check to make sure that third person’s software is secure or not. This will provide a good chance of Malware Attacks. Research workers of the company have forecasted five latest attacks in 2010.

(1) People can get the attack while there sharing a file with others phone networks or through internet.

(2) P2P networks will face the threats like Virut and TDSS. There is also a chance for Mac OS X to have an attack like “First Backdoor.”

(3) The cyber criminals are trying to get their self registered users so that they would be able to spread Malware Attacks, Denial of Service Attacks and spreading the spam through internet. So the cyber criminals will earn money without committing an open crime.

(4) Gaming Trojans will also decline in this year as it was declined in 2009, so the cyber criminals will repeat the Anti Virus Programs this year.

(5) The attack on the latest services “Google Wave” will follow the customary way, first send a spam which will be followed the attack of “Phishing” and then it will come to spread Malware Attacks.

The Nokia X6 and Nokia X3 handsets have been announced and are here to show the world how music phones should be done. Leading the charge is the Nokia X6, which we saw as code-name Alvin yesterday. What’s more, the Nokia X6 also packs in a whopping 32GB of storage, so you’ll be able to carry you entire music collection around with you.

Joining the Nokia X6 is the entry-level Nokia X3, which is the first Nokia Series 40 phone to be compliant with Ovi Store. The Nokia X3 is a sleek and compact music device that comes with stereo speakers, built-in FM radio, and a 3.2-Megapixel camera.

The Nokia X3 has a 2.2-inch screen and comes with up to 46MB of internal memory, which can be expanded to 8GB using the microSD slot. The Nokia X3 will also go on sale before the end of the year and have an estimated price of around 115 Euro.

The XpressMusic is not the only touch screen phone out there nor is it the only music playback oriented phone. Neither is it the only touch screen music playback phone. But despite not being unique in its functions and features, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is still a decent mobile phone. Users who expect a lot of functionality from a single device might want to consider looking elsewhere as the XpressMusic fails to match to the better specs and capabilities of other mobile phones.

All about the Simple Things
Though it is a simple mobile device, the XpressMusic is still a decent phone to have around. There are help functions for various functions too. Setting your own personalized customizations on this phone is also easy to do as well. Quite a convenient phone actually.

The drop down media player and hotkeys are easy to access as well. Users might be disappointed at the lack of decent video formats compatible for play on this phone, but the music formats are more than enough ranging from Midi files to MP3s. The play list settings are also simple, of course, you will find the usual options there such as repeat and shuffle settings and custom play lists and song orders.

A Good Nokia Phone
The camera has 3.2 mega pixels; this is a pretty decent camera, but those who want more camera options are looking at the wrong phone. Browsing files is made easy with its compatibility with computers and standardized file formats.

Nokia dikabarkan akan segera merilis ponsel terbarunya, Nokia N900 pada akhir Oktober. Ponsel berkemampunan HSDPA, HSUPA itu akan dilemparkan kepasaran dengan harga 599 euro atau sekitar Rp 8,4 juta. Sebelumnya dikabarkan, bahwa produsen ponsel asal Finlandia itu akan segera mengeluarkan ponsel berbasis operasi sistem Linux, Maemo 5 pada Oktober 2009. Tapi belum ada kepastian apakah Nokia akan melemparkan di awal atau pertengahan Oktober.

Rugged Nokia 3720 Classic is official

Today Nokia has officially presented Nokia 3720 classic - a rugged laptop designed to survive in an environment where others will not. Coming with IP-54 and the entry-level certification of sets of features, the Nokia 3720 classic will be a direct rival to the Samsung B2100 Xplorer.
Nokia 3720 Classic is the next member of the nearly forgotten line of "rugged" devices from the Finnish manufacturer Nokia, which dates back to 5140. Its IP-54 certification is complete with dust and splash resistance, while Nokia was also strongly support increased resistance to impact.
The body of the phone is made up of elements of stainless steel, raw materials and sealed textured surface. The back cover is protected against water and dust from a block of metal screw. Nokia Surge packs a 2.4 "16M-color display of QVGA resolution. Quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE and dual-band UMTS with HSDPA support providing 3.6Mbps data transfers in the network, while Bluetooth technology, USB and a 2.5 mm audio jack cover local connectivity.

The AT & T-exclusive Nokia Surge also comes with a range of services related to the carrier, including AT & T Navigator, Yellowpages.com, Where, AT & T Music, Mobi.dada.net, TV, Video Share, and JuiceCaster AT & T Mobile Banking.

Nokia menyindir Apple dan mengklaim ponsel cerdas keluaranya, Nokia N97 lebih baik ketimbang iPhone 3GS baik dari segi harga maupun kemampuan.
Nokia N97 merupakan ponsel model terakhir yang dikeluarkan vendor ponsel asal Filandia itu ke pasaran.
Di tengah persaingan dengan produsen vendor lainya, General Manager, Nokia Inggris, Mike Lourghran mengeluarkan komentar yang menyudutkan ponsel keluaran terakhir Apple iPhone 3GS.
“iPhone merupakan sebuah evolusi bukan sebuah revolusi dan setiap orang tentunya akan memusatkan untuk memilih Nokia N97 atau iPhone tergantung dari kemampuan dan harga,” kata Loughran.
Menurut Lougrhan, desain iPhone selalu sama mulai dari bentuk maupun warna. “Kameranya pun masih kecil, hanya 3,2 megapiksel, hal itu jelas akan membuat semua orang kecewa,” kata Lourghan.
Ia mambandingkan, iPhone 3GS dengan, handset kebangganya Nokia N97. Jika di bandingkan dengan Nokia N97 maka kemampuan iPhone dinilai jauh kebawah. Global mobile phone leader, Nokia, revealed that it will put forward its own digital music service into the market in Q4 2007. It is part of its online mobile services initiative and also a new strategy to regain its market share after facing strong challenge with the emergence of Apple iPhone this year.

Nokia digital music service called Nokia Music Store will allow users to download songs from internet to their PC or directly to mobile phones over wireless networks. This new unique feature goes beyond Apple iPhone as Apple iPhone cannot perform the same feature. Other features available in this music store include dynamic music recommendations and a “Mix Me” feature for creating playlists of recommended songs based on genre preferences. Nokia has suggested that it would price music downloads at 1 euro for one song or 10 euro for the entire album. In addition, customers would have to pay for the use of phone networks for the download, though many operators are starting to offer monthly flat-fee packages.

Besides Nokia Music Store, Nokia also announced that it would revive a game platform called N-Gage, with a number of video game publishers agreeing to supply games for downloading. The company said it would make all of its mobile content and Internet services available under the brand Ovi, which means ‘door’ in Finnish. Nokia is probably hoping that Ovi would be as great a success as Microsoft’s Windows.

There had been much anticipation about the release of the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic ever since the date was announced. Nokia's ultimate music phone was to be the first touch screen handset the company produced as well. All of the other manufacturers had already released at least one touch screen phone so the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic had to make an impression, but does it make the right one?

Taking the appearance of the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic first, it is a simple phone in that it is sleek, black and oozes a businesslike quality that might put the regular users off. However, the design's simplicity is probably perfect for the phone given that this was Nokia's first foray into a different area of the market. Unlike some of its peers, there are no frills at all and what you see is what you get. However, there is a stylus that slots in the back of the phone for ease of storage but you might not know it to look at the promotional material. It is called a "plectrum" and it might prove a little difficult to remove so you might not want to use it at all.

In terms of the features present in the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, it is a comprehensive handset. You can easily locate the feature you are looking for in no time at all because the navigation buttons are easy to use and very responsive. In addition to that, the menus are well laid out so everything is ordered logically. This is one of the major advantages it has over its competition. It is a good job that the menus are so good really because there is so much packed into this handset that everything would be impossible to find otherwise.

There are some lovely technologically advanced touches incorporated into the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic. You can download podcasts, listen to Internet radio stations and much more as a result of its 3G capabilities. The sound quality of such features and the music player that is built in is excellent too. Most file formats are supported by the music player so you can enjoy your favourite tunes as and when you like complete with surround sound. There is also an excellent 3.2MP camera in addition to the Carl Zeiss optics, LED flash, 3x digital zoom and auto focus for imaging purposes as well. As such, you can listen to great tunes and take fantastic pictures as and when you like.

There are a few niggles with the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic but these may be down to the fact that it is Nokia's first foray into the touch screen phone. The first is the 81MB of memory on board. Given the level of the features it should have been much higher, although it can be supplemented by a further 8GB. The automatic orientation sensor does tend to sport a split second delay as well, which can get really irritating after a while. The talk time is also a little low at 5 hours, which is 3 hours less than Nokia says.

Given just how much is packed into the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, it is understandable that there are one of two issues with the handset. Overall though, everything works well and the minimalist casing belies the functionality that lurks below the surface. Nokia can be proud of their handset and you might well feel the same after trying it!

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic: The Phone Hold Music

I just got a hold of this Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. This is an amazing new device which shows why Nokia dominates the mobile phone market with a big choice of innovative designs and experiences suitable for each individual user.

The price is unbeatable. You'll keep hearing this line about the price, and when you get a hold of it, you'll agree.

This is the phone with the most complete set of features I have ever wanted.
The device is light, feels ready for some hard knocks, it is a little bulky (compared to my trusted E51:).

Update to the latest firmware 11.0.008, and you'll feel much better about the usability of this device

It's not quite "touch" sensitive, but "press" sensitive. This proves to be an advantage, since I'm more in control when I use the device on a bus, train, boat or tuk-tuk (a 3 wheel vehicle, with 2 stroke engine, sort of a "Thai Model-T" seen all over Bangkok).

The switch between portrait and landscape mode, is actually much simpler and quite natural once I got the hold of it.

I set up access to my GMAIL account within 2 mins.
Messaging App, Options->Settings->Email, say "Yes" to Define Mailbox, Enter Email Address, Password, choose POP3 or IMAP4, and I'm connected to my GMail Account!

You can choose the best way you see fit to enter text
1. Handwriting recognition
Took 5 minutes to get used to it. I don't quite like writing in block letters, but the 5800 handled fast writing quite ok. I'm overly critical of all current handwriting recognition products, since they don't even come close to the Newton, way back when I could expect my own handwriting to be recognized.
2. Small QWERTY keyboard
Most typically used in portrait mode but much more readable than WinMobile keyboards
3. Full QWERTY keyboard
It felt more stable than the iPhone QWERTY keyboard. I prefer to "press" the keyboard as is needed with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I don't like the iPhone QWERTY key since it's too sensitive to touch and I can't type when I'm on the move. I've never been able to get used to the Blackberry or Nokia E71 style full QWERTY keyboard.
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic full QWERTY keyboard switches to landscape mode and feels almost right that I have to use 2 thumbs to reach all the keys...almost like 2 hand typing.
4. Alphanumeric Keypad for traditional one-thumb typing with T9.

There's a really cool driving game that shows the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic sensitivity to turns. You literally hold the phone with both hands and "steer" the car!

The media player (from RealPlayer) is much improved, allowing me to play more types of VDO format files. Quite useful to get the nice video podcasts downloaded and find that they are actually viewable on the device.

The Music Player is the same. Sound quality is really good through the speakers.

The Media Gallery is a little static, with all files arranged as a grid. The N95 Media Gallery would be a nice touch.

You will soon see many useful applications on Nokia's range of "touch" handsets.
This device requires developers to publish a Symbian sdk5 version of their application.
We tested a few apps released for Symbian sdk3 devices (N-Series and E-Series mainly), and they almost always worked without any changes.

The Phone Hold Music: Nokia's Tube is the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

There's an event on next week. Actually, there are loads. But we have good reason to believe Nokia is going to unveil the oft-discussed Tube handset — a fully touch-controlled music phone — now also known as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be a quad-band 3G handset with HSDPA connectivity, the Series 60 Symbian OS, an 81mm (3.2-inch) 640x480-pixel touch-sensitive screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash. GPS, Wi-Fi and stereo Bluetooth will connect you up, plus there's support for up to 16GB microSD cards, 150MB of internal memory and a top-mounted 3.5mm headphone socket. It'll weigh just over 100g.

We'll be honest: although it's a high-spec phone, there's nothing new in terms of features under the hood, even though the touchscreen will make these decent specifications more enjoyable. That big, high-res screen will make this one of Nokia's best mobile video handsets ever, if not the best, despite being a good year or so behind the rest of the world

As rumors have it, Nokia seem to have another full touch phone in store for us - one that's even cheaper than Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The unannounced Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is said to be due for September and will be more compact and won't have a GPS receiver.

A "reliable source" to Daily Mobile claims that the upcoming Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is another touch-based device form Nokia. The rumored specs include a 2.9-inch touch display, Wi-Fi, FM radio, 3.2 megapixel snapper, 3.5mm audio jack and 150MB internal storage expandable via microSD slot.

As you can see there is much similarity with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Series, but the screen is smaller. There is also no info on GPS or 3G support, but the OS remains Symbian S60 5th Edition.

It seems the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is a smaller sibling of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and hopefully it will be cheaper due to the smaller screen size and missing GPS receiver.

"On the back of the Nokia N78 there's a 3.2-megapixel camera, which is apparently the resolution of choice these days. It's not the 5-megapixels of the N96 or the Nokia 6220 Classic but with Carl Zeiss optics it should be more than sufficient. Remember: it's not how many megapixels you have, it's what you do with them that counts."

MobileTechReview has a review of the Nokia N78 and writes,
"Though the Nokia N73 also had a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, making the nokia N78 look no better on paper, it does indeed take better photos. It can't compete with the Nokia N95 or Nokia N82, but the photos are sharp (a little overly so), colorful and generally accurate with just a small blue bias. Indoor shots show some noise and the LED flash helps just a bit,...The phone has a Carl Zeiss autofocus lens as do other high end NSeries imaging phones. Max photo resolution is 2048x1536 pixels, and max video resolution is VGA at 15fps with stereo audio. Maximum video clip length is 60 minutes in MP4 format (the camcorder also supports 3GP for MMS). VGA is nice, but 15 fps means the video isn't as smooth or realistic as the N95's. Focus is quite quick as is image save even at maximum resolution-- this isn't a repeat of the initial N95 release with slow camera issues. The camera application does occasionally become unresponsive for a second or two at random times, especially noticeable when trying to activate a menu. Again, we can see a firmware update in the future that will take care of this."

All About Symbian reviews the Nokia N78 and writes,
"The top of the device houses the 3.5mm audio jack and power button. The right hand side has, from top to bottom a speaker, volume controls and the camera capture key. The volume controls double as the zoom keys in the Camera and Photos applications. One absence compared to earlier devices, such as the Nokia N73, is the Gallery key - this is because it has effectively been replaced by the multimedia key, although because of its versatility, an extra few key presses are required to access recently captured photos...The back of the device houses the 3.2 megapixel, auto-focus camera, with its Carl Zeiss optics. It’s accompanied by a single LED flash. This limits the camera’s abilities in low light conditions, but makes sense given the pricing and positioning of the N78."

InfoSync reviews the Nokia N78 and writes,
"The Carl Zeiss optics on the Nokia N78 set it apart from most phone manufacturers, for whom the lens is an afterthought. Unfortunately, even with the impressive optics, the 3.2-megapixel sensor and the auto focus, the Nokia N78 Series produced images that were sub-par. Compared to other phones we've seen, these looked great, but compared to even the lowliest point-and-shoot camera, we found the images disappointing. Videos were even worse, even though the phone can record VGA-resolution videos. Under the best conditions, pictures were okay, and we liked the wealth of options for sending and uploading photos. We even found the scroll wheel to be useful in browsing our image gallery. We just didn't find any picture worth saving."

CNET reviews the Nokia N78 and writes,
"Picture quality was actually disappointing, as colors looked washed out, and there was a hazy effect to the images. It definitely wasn't what we expected from a 3.2 megapixel camera, let alone an N series device. Recorded video looked decent. Again, colors weren't very bright but the picture was pretty clear and there wasn't as much pixilation as we've experienced with some other camera phones."

CrunchGear reviews the Nokia N78 and writes,
"The 3.5-megapixel camera is excellent and the version of Symbian running on this phone is much improved over even last year’s version. Everything was very peppy and browsing was a pleasure. It has GPS and Wi-Fi built-in and along with video and music playback."

CNET UK reviews the Nokia N78 and writes,
"We're disappointed with the 3.2-megapixel camera on the Nokia N78. It can't compete with the camera on the Nokia N82, as the picture quality isn't very clear. There's no xenon flash either and without a camera cover, you have to wonder why Nokia has bothered."

Trusted Reviews has a review of the Nokia N78 and writes,
"There is a front-facing camera for two-way video calling, as well as the main camera. Yes, the latter can geotag your photos, but as mentioned earlier it offers 3.2-megapixel capture. With 5-megapixels becoming the norm on higher end phones, it might appear that Nokia has sold itself short here...However, the Carl Zeiss optics with auto focus, macro mode and LED (not xenon) flash all help matters along nicely, plus we should not forget that cramming more megapixels onto a tiny sensor can actually be detrimental to picture quality in terms of elevated noise (a 3.2-megapixel sensor has the potential to offer cleaner images than a 5-megapixel one of the same size). Anyway, with all the settings on auto mode and the flash turned off my tests shots were encouraging."

Nokia XpressMusic 5320 Might Hit the US

The US might soon get a new Nokia Xpress Music handset, namely the nokia 5320 XpressMusic , as the phone was recently approved by the FCC. If Nokia indeed plans to release the Nokia 5320 XpressMusic in the States, it would be the second XpressMusic to be available this year for North American users, after the Nokia 5310 Xpressmusic series, which was launched by both T-Mobile in the US and Rogers in Canada.

Until now, Nokia announced the availability of Nokia 5320 Xpressmusic only for Europe and Latin America, hence North America is not yet in the Finnish company's plans when it comes to the new XpressMusic handset. Still, US users should expect the phone to get a release stateside too, especially since the FCC has approved the handset.

Presented by Nokia back in April, together with the weird-looking Nokia 5220 XpessMusic model, Nokia 5320 XpressMusic has two versions: an HSDPA 900 / 2100 MHz one and an HSDPA 850 / 1900 MHz one. Obviously, the FCC approved the latter, as it's the only one that can work on the North American 3G networks.

Although not as slims as the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic (which measures only 9.9 millimeters in thickness), the Nokia 5320 XpressMusic is still a nice-looking and well-proportioned phone. At 108 x 46 x 15 millimeters (4.25 x 1.81 x 0.59 inches), the candybar brings the following features: dedicated XpressMusic keys, Music player (MP3, M4A, WMA and eAAC+ supported), stereo FM radio with RDS, a 3.5mm audio jack, a "Say and Play" application that enables users to simply say the name of a song out loud in order for it to be played, a 2 inch TTF display with 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors, Bluetooth 2.0, email and Web capabilities, a 2 Megapixel camera with flash, a secondary camera for video calls, a Symbian S60 UI and 140MB of built-in memory that can be expanded up to 8GB (at least a 512MB card should be included when you buy the handset).

If it is indeed to be released in the US, the nokia 5320 XpressMusic should have a retail price similar to the one from Europe (about $350).

The new Nokia 5730 Xpressmusic series targets the social networking trend with a full sliding keyboard. Its homescreen features an improved contacts bar that lists up to 20 friends and accesses music, people, N-Gage games, email, calendar and other applications such as Facebook, Photos, Ovi Contacts and Maps.

With Nokia's Ovi Contacts, users can see which friends are online, chat and view what music they're listening to.

Consumers can also play games through dedicated gaming keys and online through the N-Gage Arena community.

Nokia said it will expand its "Comes with Music" service, currently available in the UK and Singapore, to Australia later this month. Additional launches for the coming several months include Italy, Sweden and Mexico.

Comes with Music offers unlimited music from major music labels and a number of independents, and the music can be kept after the yearly contract has expired.

The individual tracks can be downloaded to a phone and a single computer and are free, though the cost of the music is reflected in the price of the phone itself.

The original announcement of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic promised three color versions: Red, Blue and Black. Up until now only the red and blue ones have been available, but the grey-striped one will finally hit the shelves as well and here are the live shots to prove it.

Call it Black, call it Black/Silver, or call it Grey if you prefer. Whatever it is, the main thing about the new color of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is that it looks much more serious now. The red and blue stripes of the well-known versions are now silverish.

Except for the more decent look of the Black/Silver Nokia 5800 XpressMusic behind the new clothes there's still the well known all-in-one multimedia monster.

There's the 3.2" touchscreen, the Wi-Fi support, the built-in GPS receiver, the great music player, the powerful stereo speakers and all the other goodies that turned Nokia 5800 XpressMusic into one of the most anticipated and desired handsets announced lately.

Ever heard about the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic? Probably not, and that’s because the 5530 is an unannounced device.

However, Daily Mobile quotes a “reliable source” and says the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is a touchscreen handset that will be introduced by the Finnish company sometime in September 2009.

And since we’ve recently reported Nokia wants to launch three touchscreen phone this fall, I guess we have no reasons not to believe the info above.

There’s no image yet with the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic, but we do have some of its features. These are said to include:

Nokia releases Point & Find, updates Nokia Messaging

Nokia launched their new Point & Find service into beta today and updated Nokia Messaging to support Windows Live Hotmail. Point & Find allows you to snap a photo of something and be directed to relevant information and content.

The beta of Point & Find is available in the UK and US and is focused on movies but the service will expand into other fields and countries. Nokia see this as a way for stores and companies to launch campaigns and promotions by giving easy access to information on products and services.

Nokia has offered support for embedding data into barcodes for a while now - Nokia Mobile Codes lets you generate either a Datamatrix or QR code with link, text or business card info embedded into it.

Point & Find takes this a step further. With it you can shoot a photo of a movie poster and be directed to content like the trailer, reviews and even info on the closest theaters showing the movie, taking advantage of the GPS capabilities of the phones.

As a fallback, there's a category specific text search in case you have nothing handy to photograph. It can also recognize barcodes so you can scan the barcode of a product and get product reviews and other info.

The other bit of news that came out of Espoo is that Nokia's push email service - Nokia Messaging - has added support for Windows Live Hotmail in addition to the already supported Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and AOL Mail.
